AMG Engine Build 5.5l (The Basket Case) 113.990 PT2
Okay I have a 2012 gmc sierra I have not experienced any problems with the AFM DOD. The truck has 137k on it I want to do preventative maintenance. I am thinking I should do a full AFM DOD delete. I would like to talk with someone over the phone to figure out everything I need to do this job on my truck.
I believe you messaged me and my website already. If not, that's the place to go. I'll respond to you there and get you my contact info so you can call me.
Great advice. Once flushed out 3000 to 5000 miles max oil changes. I now use Petronas Syntium Oil. Not sure if available in USA ( I am UK based). However, you guys have Valvoline and they have just brought out a "Restore & Protect" oil which is supposed to reverse any build up of sludging/carbon.
Excellent rebuild advice. Thank you
Aiight, I have a 2007 Tahoe WITH 220K. Just got the FAILURE. getting ready to tackle this job. Do I snip off all the rubbers for all AFM soilnoids, or just the one that's having the issue. CILYNDER 6
All of them. You Should watch my full release video. At 27:17 I do the VLOM mod that I recommend.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair you're the man, look out for my VLOM order... I'll revert back when done for success
Great video! Ty
Very informative! The little thing on the oil pressure relief is a deflector that makes the oil go down into the pan instead of up and it’s supposed to be GMs answer to one of the probes I heard somewhere else that’s and after market fix I wonder if someone installed that and I also been seeing that the make plug to just get rid of it and that sounds like a better option if it works. I’m trying to learn about it myself my oil pressure is going high for a period and I mean 80+ and then dropping down and sometimes going to zero I’m really stuck and tired I’m trying to see if I need to replace that O-ring and your video taught me to check for bubbles so that’s cool! I was wondering if some AT-205 might swell the o-ring back up, I haven’t seen anyone try that and the AT 205 is hard to find for some reason!
I'm not sure about at-205 never messed with that. If it swells gaskets like a o-ring I'd be worried about other seals in the engine like timing gover, oil pan, rear cover etc. You might end up making those separate and create a much larger leak. You most likely have an oil pan leak already, so you may as well do the o-ring. It's only a 5-hour job according to the book on 4x4 trucks. It only takes me about 3 hours tops with interruptions.
Excellent to see you are still getting to have fun. If you get into the 14+ LT motors , be sure to post them. Be well. Enjoy the weather while you can.
I have been getting into the newer ones but I've had very little time to do any video. I have a few videos of the newer ones just not enough yet.
Diagram doesn't show oil cooler pad or afm towers and vlom.
Because oil cooler is optional and just interrupts flow at the filter. Not sure what you mean by pad but as for the VLOM. The VLOM only flows oil in AFM equipped engines under AFM active conditions and is not a part of engine lubrication. Just like the VVT system. AFM only flows oil as a way to control a component and not as a system lubrication. I wish the diagram showed all those along with the pressure relief valve in pan. But I didn't make up the diagram. I just used it for illustration.
What size holes did you drill ? Look like 5/32 ?
It might say in the description
I think I put that in the description. If not, It's basically slightly bigger than the stock hole. It's not a super precise measurement. I also try to shift the whole in the back over a little bit towards the back of the engine.
Is there a way to find the collapsed lifter, i have both valve covers off, my vlom is smooth as a babys bottom no channels on the top and all the lifters seem tight? Great videos !
Message me on my website for a quicker response at CrazedPerformanceRepair.com It's possible You have a spunlifter or something else going on. The lifter could also be spun, using the starter relay with the key off, spin the engine over. Make sure not to jump the wrong terminals as it could damage the ECM. Vlom Must be on for this test. While it is spinning watch the suspected rocker move. Make sure that it rocks at least 6 to 7 times before you let up on the starter. If the rocker stops moving before then it is getting fed oil pressure and is likely spun. You can determine this by looking at the side of the lifter. To see the side of the lifter you need to pull the VLOM and clean out the oil tower of the suspected lifter with cleaner and shop air. Once cleaned you can look down the oil tower and if you see a hole in the lifter it is not spun. If however you see only shiny metal or a flat surface then the lifter has spun due to a bad plastic lifter guide. When this happens you will need to replace the camshaft and all lifters. This would be a good time to do a full AFM/DOD delete where you remove all AFM components and replace them with non AFM components. I do now offer AFM delete kits for select models. Be sure to check my website for your engine. www.crazedperformancerepair.com/afm-delete-kits
glad to know that this is common for GM, i am working on a 2003 gmc savana with the 6.0l v8 engine, and i noticed the ticking even when the van is warmed up it still ticks but i noticed when im driving and giving it some gas it goes away but you can still hear it when it idles, suspected symptom of manifold leak? i havent dove very much into yet but will do in acouple days
I have a better tip for everyone. Buy two bearings. Sand the inner part of the race on one so it just barely slides on and off. Use that to find the perfect distance. Then press on the second bearing and throw the first one out.
You desperately need to buy the right tools for the job.
I have a Buick Lucerne my code was0442 we replace the evp vale on the front it went off 5 days it came back on is under the car that might have the problem.
I do that on my 2015 tahoe, and I deactivate dod software, but I get P0011 camshaft position!! what is the wrong for that??
Your cordless impact gave me a chubby, so I climbed on the misses and dropped a nut into the abyss m!
I’m not getting any ticking it’s more of a chirp.
I like it but am i wrong for thinking you should have a gauge on the tank? Whats gonna happen if you pump 400 psi into the tank? Or 250 in the cold and tank gets hot? Also curious about how you might seperate the oil, so that you aren't mixing different oils between cars. I do similar but use the little cans. I dont let over 100 psi in them,i can only fill them a 1/4 ways and throw them away after one reuse. I also put vacuum on cans first. Not judging at all, just seein if i can educate or be educated. Thanks for the video.
That is all very good points, I think if you're using a 30lb recovery tank without a gauge you should do one car at a time but thank you for the tip about putting vacuum on it... That might in fact be the whole trick for me.
that car give you a stiff ride.
Would this work for the 8.1 big block?
Yipes, putting a pry bar against that aluminum head?? And heat all bolts with acetylene torch before trying to remove.
Three months later & I’m back gonna release the lifter again. My issues I’m having recently before the recent collapsing, was low Oil Pressure. Then it collapsed a week later after low oil pressure. If anyone recommends something as to why it’s marking that pls lmk I found out that I been driving for 8 months with no proper shock bolts so there extreme 2Inch bolt play on the shocks every bump I hit & I Just gave up on the suspension after changing the shocks aka mechanic! Because it drove like shit still, But Just recently I also found out my loud suspension issue was also engine mounts gone bad. So I’ve recently update mounts and spark plugs properly bolted shocks and I hope for a better suspension now because it drove like I was taking every 1Foot Man hole 🕳️ Pot hole. Gonna do an oil Change and Hope the engine runs a year at least! I’m hoping bad suspension and engine getting bounced around caused this from the start.
Does this work on a regular non dod lifter ? I have a 4.8 with stuck lifter
You are a very good mechanic. Wish you had some help there.
is it possible to drill additional holes to increase flow, rather than decap the injectors ?
Was thinking can do something like this, also the potential to use as a vacuum and a compressor. Anyways, after doing the Prius AC Compressor with my HVAC man who has all the kit, seemed to me the cheap locally Autozone sourced ND14 equivalent I used instead of ND11 was what was the most nasty of the chemicals in the system. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent advice on using the chisel that way! Thanks for putting this video together.
How did you manage to torque the head bolt on the driver side closest to the firewall?
You can do a e70 blower motor just removing the lower trim. It hurts the hands but it will fit in and out.
So do I need a tune after installing the VLOM plug? Can I just buy that chip in the description that disables the AFM or do I actually need to get it tuned by a tuner?
any convo on atf in the fuel system?
Piston slap plus bad lowere end cap bearing
is this a 2.4 Ecotec? I see that you have the connecting rod tang or notch facing towards the exhaust side viewing the bearing, being the crank pulley is to your left. I just rebuilt a 2.4 Ecotec l4 in a 2017 Buick Verano. And I believe I have the connecting rods backwards. pistons are going in the right direction, but maybe not the connecting rods. Funny I was told they face out from a liscensed mechanic. Timimg everything is replaced but I cannot turn the engine over by hand. Is it possible that its because of backwards connecting rods?
Is there a way to verify externally if you have the new or old valve covers?
I have a 5.3l truck it seems the lifter is pumped after sitting a bit, and then once the cam makes 2 lifts it sounds collapsed and starts missing. It is AFM deleted. That be a junk lifter and no need to use this tool correct?
Sad video....😂😂😂😂😂
What nobody explains is what happens to the shavings and chaff that goes into the baffle after you drill holes!!
I explained that at 4:29, pay attention next time.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair ok mustve missed that, I was going to do the same, duct-tape the end of my air hose tire inflator to the baffled opening and run air to make sure no shavings get in. Was just wondering if there was a better way, maybe water instead of air.
How did you just take off cover to get to rockers with out taking everything els apart?????
The music, if it can be called that, is loud and not improving the video
Take the tire to have it plugged professionally from the inside. There are specific sized combinationplug/patch sizes that are far less damaging to the tire carcass. Sure, the plugs hold ok, but the damage to the steel belt definitely shortens the service life. Happened to me. Plenty of tread but the belts failed a year after the plug went in.
My man your a life saver. Can I ask u a question about a similar issue?
Do you need credits just to disable afm ?
Not only will the lifter be a pain to take care of the injectors love to instantly go bad on what ever bank you pull them out of. But at least the cam is usually fine and the roller holds up.
I have seen much come out fron using bg EPR(engine perfirmance restoration). Much in the way of carbon chunks.
Just did this on my 6.2l, worked like a charm!
It's a shame GM designed such a poor valvetrain setup in an engine block design that is rather stout and can reliably handle alot of HP.
Or weld on a bolt and use a hollow ram. I found this out when working on my Mercedes and the ECU, fusebox, air-con and power steering are all in the way.
Thanks for the heads up
Everything is junk make something simple
